About the position

As a Propulsion Engineer at StandardAero, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of turbine engines. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of technical decision-making and support tasks aimed at addressing product quality issues, enhancing turbine engine performance, and troubleshooting various production processes. You will be expected to engage with both internal teams and external customers, providing expert guidance and support in relation to turbine engine overhaul and repair processes. This position offers an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and methodologies in the aviation industry, allowing you to contribute significantly to the success of our operations. In this role, you will be responsible for recognizing and understanding flight and product safety critical parts and processes. You will resolve technical problems that fall outside of the regular work scope by liaising with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Acting as a technical liaison, you will facilitate best practice sharing and maintain effective communication with OEMs. Your duties will also include preparing detailed work instructions for operations personnel, supporting day-to-day production, and providing technical advisement to ensure compliance with technical requirements. You will be tasked with providing process-related training, analyzing methods to meet production requirements, and improving quality and efficiency. Additionally, you will produce reports on product serviceability, repair summaries, warranty claims, and failure analysis. Your role will involve coordinating activities between internal and external engineering and operations teams during new repair and process implementations, as well as initiating and supporting minor component repairs as permitted by FAR part 145. You will also be responsible for developing new repairs based on engineering data and contributing to repair trials, analyzing and documenting the results. Staying updated with state-of-the-art technologies and processes will be essential, as will supporting test cell calibration and maintenance. You will monitor and report on test cell efficiency, analyze discrepancies in performance and vibration test data, and support technicians in conducting engine performance runs and surveys. Ultimately, your expertise will guide the acceptance or rejection of engines based on performance data, providing recommendations for necessary corrections or improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Recognize and understand flight/product safety critical parts and processes
  • Resolve technical problems outside of regular workscope through OEM liaise
  • Act as a technical liaison for best practice sharing and OEM communications
  • Prepare detailed work instructions for operations personnel outside routine Overhaul & Repair procedures
  • Support day-to-day production and provide technical advisement on all aspects to meet technical requirements
  • Provide process-related training and analyze methods to meet production requirements and improve quality and efficiency
  • Provide technical advice and produce reports on product serviceability, repair summaries, warranty, and failure analysis
  • Support implementation of new processes, specify tools and test equipment, and assist in training on overhaul and test methods
  • Use statistical analysis for test data trending to maintain product quality and test cell correlation
  • Coordinate with external resources for process support, improvement, or repair development
  • Coordinate activities between internal and external Engineering and Operations during new repair and process implementations
  • Initiate and support minor component repairs as allowed by FAR part 145
  • Develop new repairs from engineering data and contribute to repair trials, analyzing and documenting results
  • Propose and perform cost-benefit analyses for new equipment purchases
  • Stay updated with state-of-the-art technologies and processes
  • Support test cell calibration and maintenance, including correlation with industry standards and OEM requirements
  • Monitor and report test cell efficiency in support of modernization efforts with Central Engineering
  • Analyze discrepancies in performance/vibration test data sets for incoming and outgoing engine tests
  • Support technicians conducting engine on-wing and test cell performance runs, vibration surveys, and fan balance jobs
  • Accept or reject engines based on performance data and provide work scope recommendations for corrections and/or improvements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a support role for turbine engine maintenance
  • Ability to independently prioritize tasks according to customer commitments and company objectives
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods, shop equipment, and machining processes
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints
  • Working knowledge of precision measuring instruments
  • Familiarity with gas turbine engine theory and performance analysis
  • Strong PC skills
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical, leadership, interpersonal, decision-making, oral, and written communication skills
  • Physical ability to walk throughout the facility, climb, bend, and lift

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Honeywell propulsion engine and APU products preferred
  • Valid FAA A&P license preferred
