About the position

As a Propulsion Engineer at Impulse Space, you will be responsible for all aspects of propulsion system hardware design, analysis, implementation, and operation. This role requires you to work closely with a fast-paced, agile team that is dedicated to producing high-performance spacecraft from clean sheet designs. You will serve as the Responsible Engineer for spacecraft propulsion systems, which includes programmatic ownership of related fluids, mechanical, electrical, and controls systems. Your collaboration will extend across various teams in engineering, manufacturing, and procurement to ensure the delivery of reliable and efficient propulsion systems. In this position, you will manage the interface with external customers and drive toward shared mission success. It will be your responsibility to ensure that the performance and function of hardware meet the intended specifications by performing thorough analysis and design reviews. Additionally, you will be involved in system validation test preparation, planning, and execution, and you will be expected to resolve technical issues with innovative and resourceful solutions. This role is critical in ensuring that the propulsion systems meet the high standards required for aerospace applications, and you will be expected to take ownership of projects while working collaboratively with small teams to achieve project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Responsible Engineer for spacecraft propulsion systems including programmatic ownership of related fluids, mechanical, electrical and controls systems
  • Work with wide ranging teams across engineering, manufacturing and procurement to deliver reliable and efficient propulsion systems
  • Manage interface with external customers and drive toward shared mission success
  • Ensure that the performance and function of hardware meets intent by performing analysis and design reviews
  • Perform system validation test preparation, planning and execution
  • Resolve technical issues with innovative resourceful solutions

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science
  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience in the aerospace propulsion field
  • Proficiency in basic principles of fluids, thermodynamics, heat transfer, mechanics and materials
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience working with fluid, mechanical, electrical and controls systems
  • Demonstrated ability in conceptual design, fabrication and testing of hardware
  • Demonstrated ability of taking project ownership and working collaboratively with small teams

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering
  • Prior experience working on all phases of a spaceflight propulsion system
  • Familiarity with NASA and DoD standards regarding spaceflight propulsion specifications and standards
  • Experience in a startup or agile development environment
