About the position

The Propulsion Module Structures Engineering Lead at Blue Origin is responsible for leading a diverse team in the design and development of the Forward and Aft Modules of the New Shepard Propulsion Module. This role emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and a commitment to safety, directly impacting the future of human space exploration. The lead will oversee system architectural decisions, manage project timelines, and ensure the successful delivery of high-performance systems while fostering an inclusive team culture.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the structural design team for the New Shepard Propulsion Module.
  • Identify problems and implement solutions proactively.
  • Guide the team through system architectural decisions and requirements derivation.
  • Coordinate closely with manufacturing and integration support to deliver systems on time and on budget.
  • Assess flight readiness for fielded vehicles and conduct verification audits.
  • Plan hiring needs and build a capable team to meet project challenges.
  • Create and maintain detailed schedules and allocate resources effectively.
  • Provide detailed progress reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in launch vehicle, aviation, or automotive development.
  • Expertise in sizing and design of pressurized and non-pressurized structures using metallic and composite materials.
  • Knowledge of aerospace systems engineering principles and processes.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis, including hand calculations and finite element analysis (ANSYS preferred).
  • Skilled in design release processes, PDM, and 3D CAD programs (CREO or Pro/E preferred).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience in aerospace development.
  • Proficiency in GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience with test instrumentation and data acquisition.
  • Hands-on experience with machining and maintaining pressurized or mechanical systems.
