About the position

The Propulsion Subsystem Engineer at Ford Motor Company is responsible for defining and supporting multiple propulsion subsystems, including internal combustion engines (ICE) and electric vehicles (EV). This role involves applying electrical engineering principles to design and develop vehicle powertrain systems, ensuring compatibility and efficiency across various subsystems. The engineer will lead the development of control system architecture, manage bill of materials, and support vehicle builds and launches, contributing to the advancement of innovative and sustainable automotive technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Apply principles of electrical engineering to perform the design and development of vehicle powertrain systems.
  • Define the control system hardware architecture for a given powerpack.
  • Drive complexity reduction and commonality across powerpacks and vehicle electrical architectures.
  • Lead development of the control system architecture for assigned powerpack(s).
  • Develop and release initial powerpack control system bill of materials.
  • Review and update the powerpack control system bill of materials as required.
  • Develop, release and maintain control system application requirement document (ARD).
  • Develop and release control system architecture diagrams.
  • Development and release of control system wiring requirements.
  • Ownership of design-driven elements of powerpack control system architecture including complexity/cost trade-off.
  • Core hardware team input and support for assigned subsystem feature teams.
  • Core hardware team input and support for base engine/engine systems teams.
  • Core hardware team interface to electrical and electronic systems engineering teams.
  • Responsible for wiring compatibility review with electrical and electronic systems engineering electrical distribution team.
  • Support vehicle builds and vehicle launch, and debug for development builds.
  • Control system hardware warranty and cost reduction activities.
  • Develop, release and maintain HSSDG (Hardware Subsystem Design Guide) for given feature families/Subsystem teams.
  • Develop, release and maintain CDSs (circuit design specifications) associated with given feature families.
  • Develop, maintain and disseminate CAE analysis for released CDSs, and conduct technical evaluation for actuator and sensor.
  • Act as single point of contact for hardware interface issues for given Subsystem teams.
  • Work with the sensor actuator teams and other Powertrain subsystems teams to identify and document in HSSDG approved component BoM.
  • Create new component part number in PCDD per the given feature families/Subsystem teams or the new request by Hardware Architects.
  • Verify and assign the CDSs for the new part number based on the available sheet one drawing or draft component datasheet from component D&R (or their supplier).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • 4+ years of experience analyzing/designing circuitry for real-time embedded electronic hardware modules.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • Powertrain Control experience with modules and sensors.
  • LT spice and other circuit simulation tool for circuit analysis.
  • Proficient with Microsoft tools including Word, Visio and Excel.
  • Basic understanding of Powertrain or propulsion controls systems.

Benefits

  • Immediate medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage
  • Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child-care and more
  • Family building benefits including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, fertility treatments, and more
  • Vehicle discount program for employees and family members and management leases
  • Tuition assistance
  • Established and active employee resource groups
