About the position

The Propulsion System Engineer 4 at United Launch Alliance (ULA) is responsible for performing strength, fatigue, and fracture analysis for propulsion systems and components. This role involves creating analysis models, reviewing engineering layouts, and making design recommendations while supporting fast-paced design cycles and internal reviews. The engineer will work within a team-oriented culture focused on innovation and excellence in the aerospace industry.

Responsibilities

  • Performing strength, fatigue, and fracture analysis for propulsion systems and components.
  • Creating analysis models and performing hand calculations to provide strength inputs and recommendations for new designs.
  • Reviewing and approving 3-D engineering layouts, models, designs, and 2-D drawing changes for mechanical system components.
  • Making engineering design recommendations considering thermal, mechanical, and pressure loading.
  • Supporting internal peer reviews, tabletop reviews, and formal design reviews as needed.
  • Evaluating hardware non-conformances to support production activities.
  • Participating in internal/external design reviews and technical interchange meetings.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 6 years of related work experience.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis tools such as FEMAP, NX Nastran, and NASGRO.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to work in a fast-paced development environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with fluids and thermodynamics design and analysis.
  • Experience in structural design and dynamics analysis.
  • Proficiency with mechanical design utilizing NX and Team Center.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring a team.
