About the position

The Manager, Propulsion Systems position at Royal Caribbean Group is responsible for providing technical support and expertise for propulsion systems across all brands. This role involves managing upgrades, enhancements, and maintenance of podded propulsion systems, preparing scopes for wet/dry docks, and overseeing project financials. The manager will also ensure compliance with safety and operational regulations while communicating project status to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall technical support and expertise for propulsion systems for all brands.
  • Initiate and drive activities for ongoing upgrades and enhancements of podded propulsion systems.
  • Prepare scopes for upcoming wet/dry docks in collaboration with brand ship managers.
  • Manage suppliers and interface with shipyards for project execution.
  • Attend dry/wet docks to manage maintenance or projects for propulsion systems.
  • Communicate project plan status to shoreside project team and stakeholders regularly.
  • Maintain communications with Marine Operations to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Conduct pilot programs on equipment with ship's personnel as directed by senior management.
  • Prepare capital projects, including drafting capital memos and budgets.
  • Develop and update RCG Maintenance Strategy and operational procedures.
  • Oversee propulsion machinery performance KPIs and manage fleet maintenance overview.
  • Research and identify new industry technology for onboard use.
  • Oversee technically related incidents and ensure proper investigation and corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
  • 10+ years of experience as a Naval Architect or Marine/Mechanical Engineer.
  • Experience in ship management, classification society, or similar organizations.
  • Previous shipyard/dry-docking/major repair or conversion experience required.
  • Working knowledge of steel structure, welding applications, mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Understanding of DNV requirements, USCG, and Flag state regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of safe work practices in shipyard environments.
  • Ability to manage financial aspects and identify cost efficiencies.
  • Ability to manage headcount and human resources functions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and maintenance databases.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master of Science degree preferred.
