About the position

As a Propulsion Test and Control Engineer at Anduril Industries, you will play a crucial role in developing control systems for a diverse range of airbreathing engines, including both piston and turbine applications. Your responsibilities will encompass the design and implementation of engine control systems, such as Full Authority Digital Engine Controls (FADEC), Engine Control Units (ECU), and Starter-Generators, along with the associated hardware. You will work closely with various components including actuators, sensors, and connectors, ensuring that the architecture of the engine control systems is robust and efficient. In this position, you will also be tasked with developing test stands and instrumentation packages to support engine testing and integration. This will involve testing, diagnosing, and analyzing engine data not only on test stands but also during test expeditions and in flight tests. You will have the opportunity to work on some of the most advanced engines in the aviation industry, contributing to the cutting-edge technology that Anduril is known for. Your role will require collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of electrical, mechanical, software, firmware, and test engineers, ensuring that all aspects of the engine control systems are integrated seamlessly. You will leverage your practical experience in diagnostics monitoring, failure detection, and data analysis to enhance the performance and reliability of the systems you develop.

Responsibilities

  • Develop control systems for a wide range of airbreathing engines, including piston and turbine applications.
  • Work with engine control systems including FADEC's, ECU's, Starter-Generators and related hardware.
  • Collaborate with actuators, sensors, connectors and architecture of engine control systems.
  • Develop test stands, instrumentation packages and equipment to support engine test and integration.
  • Test, diagnose, and analyze engine data on test stands, on test expeditions, and in flight test.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to ensure seamless integration of systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science or similar.
  • 5-10 years relevant engineering experience in automotive, aerospace, or defense industry.
  • Familiarity with engines, engine controls, and/or testing of engines or powertrain components.
  • Ability to collaborate well with other engineers across disciplines.
  • Practical experience with diagnostics monitoring, failure detection and data analysis.
  • Mechatronics experience including sensor selection and design, assembly of actuators, and setup of data acquisition systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters or advanced degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science or similar.
  • Strong fundamentals in control systems theory and linear systems analysis.
  • Experience designing mechanical parts using CAD and understanding manufacturing methods.
  • Experience with controls system development in an embedded environment.
  • Familiarity with test equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
