About the position

The Town of Salem is seeking a qualified Prosecutor to oversee all prosecutorial functions related to cases from the Salem Police Department. This role involves prosecuting cases in Circuit Court and State administrative hearings, performing highly responsible legal work within a police agency, and ensuring thoroughness and completeness in case management.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and oversee assigned misdemeanor and violation-level cases in Circuit Court.
• Review reports and cases for thoroughness and completeness.
• Handle assigned felony-level cases until they are bound over to Superior Court or otherwise disposed of.
• Review court cases with involved officers and prepare them for testifying.
• Select necessary witnesses and evidence for court proceedings.
• Maintain a list of police witnesses required for trials and hearings.
• Prepare court motions and responses to defense pleadings.
• Argue cases and points of law and fact in court as required.
• Represent the agency in administrative license suspension hearings.
• Maintain liaison role with court personnel, county attorney's office, and defense lawyers.
• Assist officers on ongoing investigations and active cases.
• Supply documents and responses for discovery in Circuit Court cases.
• Assist with juvenile prosecution and review sentencing options.

Requirements

• Completion of law degree.
• Member of the New Hampshire Bar Association.
• Remain in good standing with the Bar, including satisfying annual continuing legal education requirements.
• Adherence to the NHBA's Rules of Professional Conduct.
• Demonstrated oral and written skills.
• Solid judgment and decision-making ability; ability to multi-task effectively.
• Prosecution and courtroom experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license.
