About the position

The Prospect Research Analyst II plays a crucial role in identifying and providing research information on major gift prospects, including individuals, corporations, and foundations. This position is essential for supporting the advancement activities of key university officials, including the President, Vice President for University Advancement, Associate Vice President for Development, and various Deans and Development Officers across the university's colleges and schools. The research conducted by the Analyst is vital for informing strategies related to the university's most generous donors and significant supporters, ensuring that the advancement programs are well-informed and effective. In this role, the Analyst will prioritize due diligence and reputation research, focusing particularly on principal donors who are likely to contribute $5 million or more. The position requires a high level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion, as the Analyst will be handling sensitive information regarding potential donors. The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, is essential, as the Analyst will interact with a diverse range of individuals within and outside the university. The Analyst will also be responsible for training junior analysts, ensuring that the team maintains a high standard of research quality. Strong editing skills and attention to detail are necessary, as the Analyst will be expected to produce clear and accurate reports. Additionally, the role requires proficiency in computer skills, including the ability to assess new software and services that can enhance research capabilities. The Analyst must be self-motivated, well-organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks while meeting deadlines. Maintaining strict confidentiality is paramount in this position, given the sensitive nature of the information handled.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and provide research information on major gift prospects including individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Conduct due diligence and reputation research on principal donors and prospects assigned to high-ranking university officials.
  • Assist individuals within and outside the university in conducting advancement programs.
  • Inform prospect strategy with research on the university's most generous donors and significant supporters.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior analysts in research methodologies and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience; OR master's degree.
  • At least one (1) year of prospect management and/or research experience is required for candidates with a bachelor's degree.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Professionalism, integrity, and discretion in researching donors.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and with diverse individuals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in prospect research, prospect management, or development in a higher education environment.
  • Knowledge of resources available to prospect researchers and the ability to apply them effectively.
