About the position

The Prospect Research Analyst at New York University plays a crucial role in supporting the University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) team by identifying potential donors and providing analytical insights to enhance fundraising efforts. This position involves conducting thorough research to assess donor quality and crafting detailed prospect briefings for the development team and senior leadership. The analyst will engage in proactive prospecting, maintain relationships with select schools, and collaborate on projects for senior management, all while promoting a hybrid work environment that supports work-life integration.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with fundraisers to provide proactive and reactive prospect identification services throughout the fundraising cycle.
  • Identify potential donors to target for fundraising efforts through various research methods.
  • Obtain and analyze information on major donor prospects, trustees, foundations, and individuals.
  • Assess quality of donor and giving analysis to support targeted fundraising and cultivation strategies.
  • Write long-form donor prospect briefings for the development team and senior leadership.
  • Engage in proactive prospecting and portfolio building.
  • Maintain customer service prospect research relationships with select schools.
  • Collaborate on projects for the Senior Vice President and the Office of The President as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3+ years of experience in prospect research, development, and/or fundraising, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communications skills.
  • Familiarity with relational databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and experience with research databases such as Lexis-Nexis, iWave, RelSci, and CapitalIQ.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in foundation research and international research, particularly in the Asia region.
