About the position

The Prospect Research Analyst at Shriners Children's plays a crucial role in identifying, researching, and analyzing potential major gift donors to support the organization's fundraising initiatives. This position involves utilizing various research tools and methodologies to create detailed donor profiles that inform solicitation strategies and enhance fundraising efforts. The role requires a blend of analytical skills, writing proficiency, and the ability to work independently in a remote setting, while also participating in travel for conferences and meetings as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively and independently plan and execute strategies to identify potential planned and major gift donors.
  • Provide high-level research on individuals, corporations, and foundations using a wide variety of biographical, organizational, and financial sources, including iWave, LexisNexis, and other external repositories of public information.
  • Analyze accumulated information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity, and affinity to Shriners Children's.
  • Evaluate and synthesize research results to develop thorough and accurate donor profiles for gift officers.
  • Collaborate with frontline fundraisers on matters related to portfolio development, solicitation strategy, and information gathering.
  • Interpret results for a variety of projects across giving channels.
  • Participate actively in the Association of Prospect Researchers for Advancement (Apra) and/or local/regional Apra chapter or other relevant professional development organizations.

Requirements

  • 2 years of prospect research experience required, researching individuals, corporations, and foundations using subscription and free biographical, organizational, and financial sources.
  • Excellent writing skills required, with the ability to write clearly and concisely, synthesizing material from multiple sources in a coherent and accurate presentation.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel applications required.
  • Proficiency in using various Internet search techniques required.
  • Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional or educationally equivalent experience in fundraising or prospect research, library/information sciences, or financial or legal research.
