About the position

The Prospect Research Analyst at Marquette University is responsible for identifying, researching, and analyzing prospective donors to enhance the university's fundraising efforts. This role involves evaluating and interpreting prospect data from various sources, applying modeling and data mining techniques, and providing research support to development partners. The analyst will work closely with the prospect management and advancement services teams to strengthen the fundraising pipeline and qualification pool, contributing directly to the success of the division. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for both on-campus and remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Independently and collaboratively use creative research techniques and various resources to produce high-level research on prospective donors.
  • Analyze and synthesize information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, and giving propensity.
  • Develop proactive prospecting methodologies to support organizational goals, including data mining and database queries.
  • Support shared research inbox, media citation reviews, basic data updates, and due diligence support.
  • Maintain an understanding of staff portfolios to optimize prospect portfolio development and growth.
  • Identify and prioritize qualification prospects using data and predictive modeling tools.
  • Elevate prospects for qualification and strategically share recommendations for fundraising projects.
  • Implement strategic uses of tools and data to connect potential prospect interests with campaign priorities.
  • Explore opportunities to utilize social media engagement for identifying leads for development.
  • Perform other related duties to support the department and University Advancement's goals.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • At least three years of work experience in a nonprofit prospect research capacity or related field is required.
  • Superior knowledge of using internet relational databases and common computer applications.
  • Familiarity with various research information management tools used in donor and prospect research.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to build collaborative relationships with colleagues.
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with databases, Windows, and network-based electronic environments.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel or other data visualization tools.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, with experience interpreting data to inform business practices.
  • Ability to express information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Discretion and confidentiality.

  • Specific knowledge of a broad range of research techniques, including traditional text and periodical based research.
  • Basic data mining and querying skills.
