About the position

Join one of the premier arts non-profit organizations in the world as a Prospect Research Analyst. This role is critical in supporting the organization's fundraising and development efforts by gathering and analyzing key insights to build a diverse pipeline and drive philanthropic revenue. The Prospect Research Analyst will engage in extensive research, identification, and analysis to support both immediate and long-term fundraising goals. This position is based in Boston, MA, and operates in a hybrid model, requiring three days on-site and two days remote each week. The Prospect Research Analyst will utilize a wide variety of external prospect research resources and internal data to compose detailed, confidential profiles on individuals, foundations, and corporations. Ensuring accuracy, completeness, and clarity through careful proofreading and editing is essential. The analyst will provide research support for executive briefings, board nominations, and event briefings, preparing concise biographies as needed. Additionally, the role involves assessing and assigning estimated giving capacity and other prospect ratings based on financial research and analysis. The analyst will create timely and accurate corporate and foundation research products, which include organizational history, financial data, news, philanthropic priorities, and potential connections. Responding to research requests and evaluating them to determine the appropriate level of detail required is also a key responsibility. The analyst will update and maintain research-related components of the CRM database, logging new information and requesting updates to biographical and relationship data as needed. Monitoring various media sources and leads from development colleagues to identify new prospective donors and uncover additional information on current prospects is crucial. Sharing relevant articles with the Development staff as needed and assisting in coordinating screening projects and analyzing results are also part of the role.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in development research, prospect management, fundraising, or equivalent, preferably in an arts, higher-education, or other non-profit environment.
  • Proficiency with fundraising databases and research tools; demonstrated ability to effectively analyze and synthesize a high volume of information.
  • Ability to accurately interpret financial data from various sources.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to draft concise research documents with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive to changes and shifting priorities.
  • High degree of professionalism and ethical sensitivity.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion is essential.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Tessitura or other CRM databases is desirable.
