About the position

The Prospect Research Analyst at New York University plays a crucial role in supporting the fundraising strategy by identifying and assessing major gift prospects. This position involves monitoring and disseminating news related to major donors and prospects, as well as conducting thorough research and analysis on individuals, companies, and foundations. The analyst will work closely with the Assistant Director of Research to assign financially promising constituents across various gift officer portfolios. This collaboration is essential for maintaining and optimizing these portfolios through quarterly reviews, where the analyst will provide strategic counsel regarding prospect strategy and moves management. In addition to these responsibilities, the Prospect Research Analyst will support the Law School's annual and long-term fundraising goals by utilizing publicly available information sources and data from both internal and external resources. The role requires the preparation of comprehensive written analyses, the use of data analytics, and relationship mapping, along with the responsibility of updating relevant information in the Law School's CRM database. This position is integral to ensuring that the fundraising efforts are informed by accurate and timely intelligence, ultimately contributing to the success of the Law School's development initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess major gift prospects to inform fundraising strategy.
  • Monitor and disseminate news on major donors and prospects.
  • Conduct research and analysis on individuals, companies, and foundations.
  • Support the Assistant Director of Research in assigning financially promising constituents across gift officer portfolios.
  • Partner with gift officers to maintain and optimize portfolios through quarterly reviews.
  • Provide strategic counsel regarding prospect strategy and moves management.
  • Conduct prospect research utilizing publicly available information sources and internal/external data.
  • Prepare comprehensive written analyses and utilize data analytics and relationship mapping.
  • Update pertinent information in the Law School's CRM database.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least two years of prospect research or development and/or fundraising experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of the full range of prospect development functions and fundraising in a complex environment.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least three years of related experience at a large university or major non-profit organization.
  • Experience in research library management.
  • Experience and proficiency with CRM databases, particularly with Blackbaud CRM.
