About the position

The Prospect Research Analyst at William & Mary plays a crucial role in supporting fundraising efforts by conducting comprehensive prospect research and analysis. This position involves collaborating with various fundraising teams to identify and develop potential donors, utilizing advanced research methodologies to assess their capacity and willingness to contribute. The Analyst will produce detailed reports and briefings that inform strategic decision-making in fundraising initiatives, while also fostering a culture of inclusivity within the university's advancement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct full-scale prospect research and identification services throughout the prospect life cycle.
  • Support fundraising teams and individual fundraisers with proactive and reactive prospect research.
  • Utilize advanced research methodologies to identify and rank prospective donors and volunteers.
  • Collect, synthesize, analyze, and interpret biographical and financial data to produce actionable reports.
  • Advise advancement leadership and gift officers on prospect strategy and portfolio management.
  • Review fundraising benchmarks and emphasize strategic movement of prospects through the fundraising cycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in research principles, library science, history, business, writing, communications, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret financial information and present findings clearly.
  • Knowledge of research techniques and database operation.
  • Aptitude for logical thinking and intellectual curiosity.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to interface with colleagues and constituents.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of current trends in philanthropy and fundraising principles (1-3 years).
  • Understanding of business financial concepts and fundraising processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Business, information studies, public administration, or related field.
  • Experience in prospect research and management in academic, nonprofit, corporate, or consulting environments.
  • Experience analyzing wealth data and applying it to solicitation strategies.
  • Familiarity with prospect tracking data in relationship management systems.
  • Experience with Blackbaud CRM and industry tools for prospect research.
