About the position

The Protection and Control Designer at Actalent will be responsible for developing electrical construction drawings for substations, focusing on protection schemes and control systems. This role involves mentoring lower-level designers and ensuring the accuracy and quality of design documentation. The designer will work with advanced engineering tools and collaborate with various departments to deliver complex projects with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Create drawings for projects using the latest standards.
• Manage part naming and numbering conventions, and file naming protocols.
• Utilize Vault and ProjectWise for project documentation and design tracking.
• Handle complex projects with minimal supervision.
• Coordinate with other departments involved in design projects.
• Mentor less experienced designers.
• Check and validate drawings for the project and peers' work.
• Create and modify single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC & DC schematics, and other equipment schematics using AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• Design protection schemes for breaker controls and relaying systems.

Requirements

• Four plus years of experience designing schematics, wiring diagrams, and single line diagrams.
• Four plus years of electrical design experience using MicroStation and AutoCAD.
• Demonstrable proficiency using AutoCAD Electrical.
• Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer-aided design or in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering technology or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

• Advanced ability to develop wiring diagrams and cable/conduit tables from schematics.
• Advanced knowledge of single line drawings and circuit breaker coordination.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
