About the position

The Protection and Control Engineer position at LaBella involves designing protection and control systems for electrical transmission and distribution substations, with a focus on commercial, industrial, and renewable projects. The role requires collaboration with clients to define project scopes, solve problems, and produce necessary documentation. Responsibilities

  • Design projects in collaboration with clients to develop project scope and propose solutions.
  • Create Protection and Control drawings and documentation including relay one-lines, three-lines, AC/DC schematics, I/O lists, and relay settings.
  • Prepare panel construction specifications, including wiring and panel layouts.
  • Evaluate interoperability, control features, and communication aspects of protective relays and related equipment.
  • Perform power system load flow studies, fault studies, and relay setting coordination.
  • Assist in commissioning related to system startups and functional checks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in protection and control system design, cost estimating, and bidding document preparation.
  • Successful track record in designing Protection and Control Systems.
  • Knowledge of IEEE, NERC, NEC, NESC, NEMA, and ANSI standards relevant to substation design.
  • Experience with telecommunications, protective relaying, and automation (SCADA).
  • Interest in low voltage coordination and arc flash studies.
  • Familiarity with Schweitzer Engineering, General Electric, and Basler equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license from a US State (desired but not required).
