About the position

Stanley Consultants, Inc. is seeking a full-time Protection & Controls Electrical Engineer to work in various locations including Austin TX, Chicago IL, Denver CO, Jackson MI, Minneapolis MN, or Muscatine IA. The role focuses on high voltage substation and transmission system protection schemes for utility or generation clients, involving design responsibilities and technical coordination with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Design high voltage one line and three-line diagrams.
  • Develop current and potential protection schemes.
  • Conduct computer modeling and analysis of electrical systems.
  • Prepare specifications for equipment and systems.
  • Prepare reports and apply relevant codes and standards.
  • Perform and review design computations.
  • Lead design efforts and manage design budgets and schedules.
  • Determine client requirements and coordinate technical efforts within discipline areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an accredited college or university.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
  • Experience with electric utility substations up to 345kV.
  • Proficiency in protective relay coordination and settings calculations for HV and EHV transmission systems.
  • Experience with common substations and transmission line protection schemes such as step-distance, POTT, DCB, and DUTT.
  • Familiarity with electrical system analysis software such as ASPEN, ETap, SKM, PSS/E, and PSLF.
  • Knowledge of FERC and NERC requirements related to electric utility substation reliability.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (MSWord, Excel, and MSProject).
  • Experience with SCADA, RTU programming, and substation integration/automation.
  • Field testing and commissioning of substation equipment experience.
  • Factory acceptance witness testing of power transformers, switch gear, or control panels experience.
  • Experience in writing equipment specifications and relay settings.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with electrical system analysis software such as ASPEN, ETap, SKM, PSS/E, and PSLF.
