About the position

The Provider Operations Business Analyst II plays a crucial role in supporting the Provider Operations Management at the Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA). This position is designed for individuals who thrive in a hybrid work environment and must reside on Oahu. The analyst will conduct extensive research and analysis, coordinating efforts that align with major corporate initiatives and projects, as well as process improvement activities that significantly impact the HMSA member and provider experience. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying operational issues and recommending effective solutions to enhance the overall efficiency of the department. In this position, the Business Analyst II will serve as a subject matter expert, independently managing various projects and initiatives assigned by management. This includes conducting data analysis related to critical projects and operational activities, reviewing business processes, and recommending solutions that not only reduce costs but also improve efficiency and the consumer experience for both members and providers. The analyst will be responsible for analyzing trending information to identify root causes of issues and developing actionable recommendations for resolution and prevention. Additionally, the role involves mentoring and training Business Specialists and Analysts, ensuring they possess the necessary skills to effectively represent the department on corporate projects. The analyst will also prepare and conduct presentations to staff and management, including executives, to communicate findings and recommendations. This position is exempt and offers a competitive salary range of $59,000 to $116,000, with individuals typically starting between the minimum to middle of the pay range.

Responsibilities

  • Independently serve as Provider Operations subject matter expert on major corporate initiatives, projects, and process improvement activities.
  • Identify operational issues affecting Provider Operations personnel and recommend satisfactory resolutions.
  • Conduct data analysis related to critical projects and operational activities.
  • Review business processes and recommend solutions to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
  • Analyze trending information to identify root causes and develop recommendations for resolution and prevention.
  • Construct documentation analysis and present materials and recommendations to management/executives.
  • Work directly with providers to resolve complex inquiries through writing and phone communication.
  • Mentor and train Provider Operations Business Specialists and Analysts.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new services focused on member retention through provider relationships.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and recommend activities/projects to enhance systems and applications.
  • Prepare and conduct presentations to PO staff and management on recommendations and analysis findings.
  • Conduct data analysis to support business operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong organizational skills for tracking and handling multiple projects with deadlines.
  • Demonstrated report writing or other business/technical writing experience.
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong listening and presentation skills.
