About the position

The Per Diem/PRN RN position at the Surgical Hospital of Oklahoma focuses on providing professional nursing care in the Post Surgical Unit (Med Surg) during night shifts. The role emphasizes patient-centered care, adherence to established nursing protocols, and participation in performance improvement initiatives. The RN will work in a supportive environment that values professional development and cultural sensitivity.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and provide professional nursing care for patients according to medical and nursing plans of care.
  • Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing.
  • Participate in identifying clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities.
  • Assist in performance improvement activities.
  • Maintain the environment of care including equipment and material resources.
  • Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies and seeking educational offerings.
  • Support the development of other staff and formal learners.
  • Communicate the organization's vision, mission, and values.
  • Observe hospital, nursing, and departmental policies and procedures relating to safety.
  • Complete Annual Hospital Core Competency Verification and Annual Nursing Competency Verification.
  • Obtain instruction and supervision when implementing new or unfamiliar techniques or practices.
  • Respond correctly to emergency procedures and internal/external disaster plans.
  • Report incidents to Department Manager and complete incident reports in a timely manner.
  • Recognize, respect, and effectively deal with values and cultural beliefs of patients and their families.

Requirements

  • Oklahoma RN License
  • BLS Certification
  • ACLS Certification
  • PALS Certification (preferred)
  • 2 years of nursing experience, preferably on a med/surg floor with post-surgical patients

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with orthopedic patients
  • Emergency Department experience (helpful but not required)
