About the position

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will provide high-quality patient care as part of a healthcare team, focusing on psychiatric evaluation and ongoing treatment. This role involves coordinating care with other healthcare professionals, educating clients about their psychiatric conditions and medications, and maintaining accurate electronic health records. The position offers both part-time and full-time opportunities in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides sound and quality psychiatric evaluation and ongoing psycho-pharmacological treatment.
  • Coordinates treatment with other involved parties as appropriate (i.e. medical treaters, outpatient therapists, other service providers, significant client supports).
  • Educates clients on their current psychiatric diagnosis, needs, and medical histories; educates clients on medication information and usages.
  • Keeps electronic health records up to date including progress notes and assessments of service.
  • Facilitates referrals to other healthcare professionals and medical facilities.
  • Completes or assists in the completion of relevant client-related documentation like disability determination applications, guardianship affidavits, etc.
  • Communicates with collaborating physician or specialist regarding patient care.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in nursing required.
  • Completion of an accredited educational program for nurse practitioners required, with specialization in mental health.
  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse in Massachusetts with authorization to practice in an expanded role.
  • Registered with the ANCC or other accrediting organization for Nurse Practitioners with certification in adult mental health.
  • Registered with the State of Massachusetts and DEA for prescription writing privileges.
  • Experience in working with low-income, uninsured adults with serious mental health challenges and/or substance use disorders.
  • High degree of personal organization, attention to detail, and time management skills.
  • Professional writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in word processing and other computer functions using Windows, Word, and Google Email and Apps.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
