About The Position

The VA Northern California Health Care System is seeking full-time, board eligible/board certified psychiatrists to join the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) team. The role involves conducting medical history reviews, physical and mental status exams, formulating diagnoses, developing treatment plans, and managing medication for a variety of mental disorders. The psychiatrist will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and will be responsible for evaluating patients in crisis and providing medical clearance for psychiatric hospitalization. This position emphasizes a commitment to recovery-oriented care and diversity, with a focus on delivering high-quality mental health services to veterans.

Requirements

• Must be a US citizen or PRA.
• Possess a current, full, unrestricted medical license in any state.
• Board certified in BE/BC Psychiatry.
• Confirm vaccination for seasonal influenza.

Nice To Haves

• Board Certification in Psychiatry or intention to take Board exam.

Responsibilities

• Conduct medical history reviews and physical exams.
• Perform mental status exams and complete assessments.
• Formulate diagnoses and develop treatment plans.
• Order labs and/or radiological assessments for mental disorders.
• Manage medication for patients as indicated in treatment plans.
• Facilitate medication support groups.
• Evaluate and provide medical clearance for patients needing psychiatric hospitalization.
• Assess and intervene for patients presenting in crisis.
