About the position

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a full-time Psychiatrist to provide mental health services at the Bangor Community Outpatient Clinic. This role involves diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with mental illnesses, as well as collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care for veterans. Responsibilities

  • Perform initial clinical diagnostic examinations and formulate treatment plans for patients.
  • Prescribe medications and coordinate medical care for mental health clinic patients requiring follow-up.
  • Facilitate admissions to the inpatient psychiatry unit and coordinate care with inpatient physicians.
  • Provide psychiatric support and guidance to clinic staff and consult with primary care physicians as needed.
  • Serve on Medical Staff Committees and represent Psychiatry on special projects or initiatives.
  • Document care provided in the electronic medical record in a timely manner.
  • Complete clinical reminders and participate in meeting performance measures.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in psychiatry approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Psychiatry.

  • Experience in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records.
