About the position

The General/Adult Psychiatry position in Plattsburgh, New York, offers a full-time, permanent opportunity within a hospital-based practice. This role is designed for physicians who are seeking to join a team of professionals dedicated to providing inpatient psychiatry services. The position is particularly appealing for those interested in both adult and child/adolescent psychiatry, as the group is actively seeking new faculty members at the Assistant or Associate Professor level on the clinical scholar pathway. The selected candidates will have the chance to engage in a multi-disciplinary approach to care, ensuring comprehensive treatment for patients in an 18-bed Adult Unit and a 12-bed Child/Adolescent Unit. In addition to inpatient services, there is an opportunity for outpatient work if desired. The call schedule is manageable, requiring only one weeknight per month and three to four weekends per year. The practice is well-supported with excellent sub-specialty coverage, handling over 46,000 emergency department visits annually. Candidates will be responsible for direct patient care and may also supervise and teach child psychiatry fellows, residents, and medical students. A collaborative spirit and a commitment to innovative service models are essential for success in this role. Furthermore, an interest in clinical research, teaching, and public health is highly valued, along with a strong foundation in evidence-based medical practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient psychiatry services to patients in the hospital setting.

Requirements

  • Medical degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board certified or eligible in psychiatry.

  • Experience in inpatient, outpatient, and academic settings preferred.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based medical practice is essential.
