About the position

The Psychiatry Physician General Psychiatrist practice in Hot Springs, SD is seeking a qualified physician to join their team. This position involves the evaluation and management of veterans in a general Mental Health outpatient clinic. The clinic operates with a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, licensed professional counselors (LPCs), physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. The role may also involve providing some services via telepsychiatry, allowing for flexible patient interactions and care delivery. As part of the responsibilities, the psychiatrist will participate in on-call coverage for the emergency room and a 10-bed inpatient unit. This on-call duty is shared with other psychiatrists throughout the VA Black Hills Health Care System, and it is generally considered light, providing a balanced work-life dynamic. Additionally, there is an opportunity to engage in teaching, as the psychiatrist will have the chance to mentor third and fourth-year medical students, physician assistant students, and psychology interns, contributing to the education and training of future healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage veterans in the general Mental Health outpatient clinic.
  • Provide services via telepsychiatry as needed.
  • Participate in on-call coverage for the emergency room and 10-bed inpatient unit.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, LPCs, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners.
  • Teach and mentor third and fourth-year medical students, PA students, and psychology interns.

Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) with a valid medical license to practice in the state of South Dakota.
  • Board certification in Psychiatry or eligibility for board certification.
  • Experience in mental health evaluation and management, particularly with veteran populations.
