About the position

The Psychological Assistant position at the Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD) offers an excellent early career opportunity for new graduates of doctoral psychology programs. The role focuses on providing clinical services, enhancing teamwork skills, and participating in training under the supervision of licensed psychologists. The position aims to support the psychological well-being of students while contributing to the center's mission of promoting equity and inclusion within the university community.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an approachable resource for faculty, staff, students, families, and community partners on effective health promotion and education.
  • Respond to campus-wide weekday and evening crisis situations, acting as the designated University authority for mental health crises.
  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based individual and group counseling and psychotherapy.
  • Assess, evaluate, and diagnose a wide range of psychological disorders and personal, educational, and career development problems.
  • Formulate case conceptualizations and develop, execute, monitor, and modify treatment plans based on evidence-based interventions.
  • Maintain legally and ethically sound documentation and electronic medical record practices.
  • Supervise the counseling and clinical work of graduate students-in-training as assigned.
  • Connect and liaise with campus colleagues and student organizations to enhance student experiences.
  • Provide consultation to students, professionals, faculty, and administrators on psychological issues.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant state and federal laws.
  • Provide outreach to others on campus as directed.
  • Initiate and develop student programs to enhance personal growth.
  • Serve on committees and perform special projects as directed.
  • Maintain professional licensure and competence through continuing education.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program.
  • Completion of an internship in a college or university counseling center, preferably APA-accredited.
  • Registered Psychological Assistant in Delaware or license eligible in Delaware.
  • Experience working in a college counseling center, preferably with a training program.
  • Knowledge of the personal, emotional, and psychological experiences of students.
  • Understanding of the development of emerging adults and counseling center administration.
  • Knowledge of cultural competency and equity and inclusion issues.
  • Familiarity with counseling center clinical records and software platforms.
  • Understanding of Delaware Child Abuse Reporting law, FERPA, Title IX, and Clery Act.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and web navigation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with publications or presentations related to student psychological experiences.
  • Demonstrated understanding of diverse identities and cultures.
