About the position

The Psychological Services Specialist (PSS) position at the Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution at Chester, is designed for professionals looking to utilize their psychological training to address the mental health needs of the inmate population. The role involves providing psychological services, conducting assessments, and developing therapeutic programs to support inmates during their incarceration.

Responsibilities

  • Independently provide psychological services and group therapy to inmates.
  • Conduct individual interviews and select appropriate tests to measure intellectual capacity, personality, special aptitudes, and achievement levels.
  • Write and prepare psychological reports for classification, clinical interview results, parole summaries, and psychological updates.
  • Coordinate with professional staff to ensure special needs mental health cases are referred for appropriate services.
  • Develop new departmental education therapeutic programs in association with the Licensed Psychologist Manager.
  • Provide initial crisis intervention with inmates until additional professional services are coordinated.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in psychology or a closely related field with fifteen graduate level credits in psychology.
  • Two years of experience in the field of psychology under the direct supervision of a licensed psychologist.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions and pass a background investigation.
