About the position

The Psychological Services Specialist (PSS) position at the State Correctional Institution at Chester involves providing psychological services and group therapy to inmates. The role focuses on addressing the mental health and emotional adjustment needs of the inmate population, ensuring effective service delivery during incarceration. The PSS will conduct individual interviews, select appropriate psychological tests, and collaborate with professional staff to coordinate mental health services.

Responsibilities

  • Independently provide psychological services and group therapy to inmates.
  • Conduct individual interviews and select appropriate tests to measure intellectual capacity, personality, special aptitudes, and achievement levels.
  • Coordinate with professional staff to ensure special needs mental health cases are referred for counseling, psychological, psychiatric, and medical services.
  • Write and prepare psychological reports for classification, clinical interview results, role summaries, psychological updates, and evaluations.
  • Work with the Licensed Psychologist Manager to develop new departmental education therapeutic programs.
  • Provide initial crisis intervention with inmates until additional professional services are coordinated.

Requirements

  • Two years as a Psychological Services Associate Corrections; or a Master's degree in psychology or a closely related field with fifteen graduate level credits in psychology and two years of experience under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must pass a background investigation.
