About the position

The Psychology Assistant 1 position at the Mt. Vernon Developmental Center involves performing psychological evaluations and assessments under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. The role includes administering and interpreting psychological tests, conducting individual and group counseling, and participating in various committees and training programs. This position is integral to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities through trauma-informed care and psychological interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial screening and psychological evaluations/assessments.
  • Administer, score, and interpret psychological and/or neuropsychological tests.
  • Interview and observe patients, residents, consumers, students, or inmates.
  • Write and assist in the preparation of evaluation reports and treatment plans under clinical supervision.
  • Provide psychological interventions and treatments, including individual and group counseling and psychotherapy.
  • Serve on committees and attend meetings and in-service training.
  • Participate in staff development programs and research projects.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in psychology from an accredited educational institution.
  • Minimum of 60 quarter hours or 40 semester hours of graduate coursework completed in psychology.
  • Ability to understand abstract fields of study and define problems.
  • Ability to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to write meaningful, concise, and accurate reports.
  • Ability to counsel others on sensitive matters.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of clinical psychology and psycho diagnostics.
  • Experience in psychotherapy and counseling.
  • Familiarity with statistics related to psychological assessments.
