About the position

The Part Time Accounts Receivable Specialist at Sandhills Community College plays a crucial role in managing the financial transactions related to student accounts. This position involves cashiering duties, assisting students with their accounts, processing refunds, and ensuring that all communications with students are timely and accurate. The specialist will be responsible for handling financial aid transmittals, managing inquiries regarding tuition statements and past due balances, and ensuring compliance with state laws regarding delinquent accounts. Additionally, the role includes assisting with third-party sponsorships, direct deposit setups, and providing support during year-end audits and internal reviews. The specialist will also serve as a backup to the Accounts Receivable Manager and will be involved in various related projects as they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cashiering duties for student accounts.
  • Process financial aid transmittals accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Handle inquiries from students regarding tuition statements and past due balances.
  • Manage internal recovery efforts for student accounts.
  • Add or remove PERCS in a timely manner as needed.
  • Review credits to process student refunds according to Sandhills Policy.
  • Assist in managing communication to and from students.
  • Process third-party sponsorships for students.
  • Update and resolve delinquent accounts as necessary.
  • Report with the NCDOR in accordance with state law.
  • Assist students with direct deposit inquiries.
  • Help students locate their 1098T forms online.
  • Serve as backup to the Accounts Receivable Manager.
  • Gather information for year-end audits and internal reviews.
  • Submit payment requests to accounts payable.
  • Perform other related duties and work on additional projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; associate degree in business, accounting, or finance preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in accounting or business preferred.
  • Proficiency with hardware and software related to personal computers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain open communication with students and colleagues.
  • Punctuality and a strong work ethic are essential.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with students and colleagues.
