The Physical Therapy Assistant (PT Assistant) at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation plays a crucial role in providing physical therapy services under the supervision of a physical therapist. This position is integral to the rehabilitation process, ensuring that patients receive high-quality care tailored to their individual needs. The PT Assistant is responsible for assisting in treatment planning, conducting evaluations, and providing direct patient care, all while adhering to the organization's mission of restoring hope and freedom through rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, or registration.
  • Assist physical therapist in treatment planning and conducting evaluation procedures.
  • Utilize modalities, therapeutic exercise, assistive devices, and functional activities in patient treatment.
  • Provide feedback to the primary physical therapist regarding significant observations or changes in the patient's condition.
  • Estimate equipment and supply needs and participate in their acquisition and inventory.
  • Document patient's status and progress according to established standards and guidelines.
  • Communicate with other professionals to integrate physical therapy treatment as necessary.
  • Participate in educational programs for patients, families, and healthcare workers regarding treatment procedures and home programs.
  • Participate in patient care conferences as requested.
  • Attend various meetings and in-services as assigned.
  • Follow hospital policies and procedures, including patient confidentiality and infection control.
  • Meet or exceed program productivity expectations.
  • Provide discipline-specific coverage within the Mary Free Bed system as requested.
  • Support program operations as assigned.
  • Function as a patient advocate.
  • Demonstrate competence in relevant software and hardware required for job responsibilities.
  • Adhere to the Mary Free Bed Standards of Behavior when interacting with patients and coworkers.
  • Serve as a clinical instructor for physical therapist assistant students, supervising and evaluating their skills.
  • Participate in program development and/or research activities as assigned.
  • Assist in maintaining clean and orderly treatment areas.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
  • Certification by the National Board for Certification in Physical Therapy.
  • Licensure with the State of Virginia.
  • Physical ability to lift, position, and transport patients with physical impairments.
  • BLS Certification - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA Approved.
