About the position

Associate Faculty provides an invaluable service to the College and our students by providing a quality learning experience of their profession in our classrooms, laboratories, and studios. Instruction is provided throughout Cochise County. This position is face-to-face on the Sierra Vista Campus with potential expansion to the Douglas campus. The position is open until filled with applications reviewed upon receipt and may close at any time. Note: Cochise College requires a post offer, pre-employment background screening of all employees. Compensation: $859 per equated credit unit. This is NOT a remote position.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches assigned courses to enrolled students and manages a diverse population of students in a classroom and/or laboratory environment
  • Develops, prepares, and implements lesson plans; conducts pre- and post-assessment of students; evaluates, assesses, and plans for students' educational and social needs
  • Collaborates with other faculty and staff in the assessment of teaching strategies and the effectiveness of the instructional program to help promote a culture of continuous improvement
  • Maintains student records, statistics, and/or other pertinent information as required by the college and the department
  • Resolves issues relevant to area of responsibility and scope of authority, referring more difficult or complex problems to the appropriate Department Chair, Dean, or other College official
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Master's degree, preferred in Music or related discipline AND 18 graduate hours in Orchestra, Band, or Instrument Performance from an institution accredited by an institutional accrediting body of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education
  • OR Bachelor's degree in Music and three (3) years work or teaching experience in instrument performance
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of trends, developments, and new technologies affecting the Music program
  • Knowledge of how to assist students of diverse cultures and backgrounds to improve and master their musical skills
  • Knowledge of research-based adult learning principles
  • Knowledge of developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instructional approaches
  • Skill in using authentic assessment to evaluate students' needs and progress
  • Skill with current technologies and word processing, database, presentations, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to instruct students in multiple skills and techniques around instrument performance
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner
  • Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems either through the department chair or dean or by using independent judgment and decision-making
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students, and the public
