About the position

The Associate Faculty provides an invaluable service to the College and our students by providing experience of their profession in our classrooms, laboratories, and studios. Instruction is provided via a variety of media, including face-to-face courses, blended learning, and online throughout Cochise County and our entire services area. The position is open until filled with applications reviewed upon receipt and may close at any time. Note: Cochise College requires a post offer, pre-employment background screening of all employees. Compensation is $859 per equated unit.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches assigned courses to enrolled students and manages a diverse population of students in a classroom, laboratory, or online environment.
  • Develops, prepares, and implements lesson plans; conducts pre- and post-assessment of students; evaluates, assesses, and plans for students' educational and social needs.
  • Collaborates with other faculty and staff in assessment of teaching strategies and the effectiveness of the instructional program to help promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Maintains student records, statistics, and/or other pertinent information as required by the college and the department.
  • Resolves issues relevant to area of responsibility and scope of authority, referring more difficult or complex problems to the appropriate Department Chair, Dean, or other College official.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Physics or a Master's degree and 18 graduate hours in Physics from an institution accredited by an institutional accrediting body of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of trends, developments, and new technologies affecting Physics.
  • Knowledge of current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of research-based adult learning principles.
  • Knowledge of developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instructional approaches.
  • Skill in using authentic assessment to evaluate students' needs and progress.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner.
  • Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations.
  • Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students, and the public.
