About the position

Bar West is seeking an experienced and driven brunch line cook to join our focused team of professionals. Located in Portland, we pride ourselves on our commitment to quality, working closely with a network of small, local farms to provide fresh ingredients for our very popular weekend brunch. The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in kitchen operations, with specific experience in brunch service being highly desirable. Strong knife skills, a thorough understanding of both traditional and modern cooking techniques, and a positive attitude are essential for success in this role. The position is part-time, with a schedule primarily on Saturdays and Sundays from approximately 8 AM to 4 PM. There is potential for additional shifts if desired, making this a flexible opportunity for the right individual. We are looking for someone who thrives under pressure, is eager to elevate their culinary standards, and is motivated to push themselves in a dynamic kitchen environment. Our menu changes regularly, providing a stimulating challenge for our kitchen staff, who will have access to a variety of cooking mediums to enhance their skills and creativity. Compensation starts at $22 to $28 per hour, with the added benefit of generous kitchen tips ranging from $6 to $10 per hour, in addition to the hourly wage. Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook brunch menu items according to recipes and standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen workspace.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
  • Adapt to changing menu items and cooking techniques as needed.
  • Ensure food quality and presentation meet Bar West's standards.
  • Assist in inventory management and ordering supplies as necessary.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a line cook in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Strong knife skills and knowledge of cooking techniques.
  • Experience specifically in brunch service is preferred.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a team environment.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with farm-to-table cooking practices.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to create new menu items or contribute to menu development.
