About the position

The Clerk position at the Hill County Clerk & Recorder's Office is a part-time role that involves a variety of tasks related to record-keeping, election processes, and customer service. The position requires flexibility in job assignments and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities, including document processing, public interaction, and maintaining confidentiality. The clerk will be trained in all office duties and will serve as a backup for other employees during absences.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers at the counter with various requests
  • Process ownership and land descriptions
  • Address election-related questions
  • Determine sufficiency of documents for recording
  • Register voters and assist with the election process
  • Index and issue birth and death certificates
  • Perform filing duties and cover switchboard/mail position as needed
  • Balance daily cash drawer and prepare reports
  • Attend meetings as required by the supervisor
  • Scan and proof documents and microfiche
  • Order office supplies and maintain inventory of records

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in an office setting or with office machines
  • Basic accounting and bookkeeping knowledge
  • Knowledge of legal documents and land descriptions
  • Ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with personal computers
  • Knowledge of laws pertaining to document recording and privacy
  • Familiarity with the election process and related laws
