About the position

The PT Deputy Clerk I position is a part-time role within the City of Pasadena, TX, responsible for managing various court-related tasks including handling payments, processing applications, and maintaining compliance with legal requirements. The role involves significant interaction with the public, data entry, and coordination with law enforcement and other agencies to ensure the smooth operation of court functions.

Responsibilities

  • Handle Defensive Driving Applications and qualify applicants according to law.
  • Determine compliance with completion criteria and manage cases accordingly.
  • Prepare orders granting deferred disposition of cases, including terms of probation and fee collection.
  • Process payments by cash, check, and credit card, ensuring all cases are properly paid and satisfied.
  • Handle compliance dismissals and assure compliance with state law regarding payment of fines.
  • Reset cases for future arraignment or trial dockets.
  • Manage personal and bail bonds, ensuring proper preparation and filing.
  • Identify and manage warrants and capias warrants, ensuring proper execution of warrants.
  • Address complaints from citizens regarding the court system.
  • Manage high volume business by handling dockets and cases efficiently.
  • Receive and input data from hand-written and electronic tickets into the computer system.
  • Prepare and verify formal charging documents for trials.
  • Interact with the Police Department on special complaints and reports.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries regarding case management.
  • Prepare and mail reset notices for cases with incorrect court dates.
  • Check defendants into court and manage court dockets.
  • Prepare payment plans and handle resets for future court dates.
  • Assist in managing juvenile docket matters and notify citizens of jury duty.
  • Work with local lawyers to resolve cases and manage warrant input.
  • Handle bond forfeiture matters and prepare necessary legal documents.
  • Interact with bonding companies and manage paperwork associated with jail releases.
  • Implement government collections procedures and maintain delinquency review systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in Windows-based applications.
  • Typing skills of at least 45 words per minute.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with the public.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a court or legal environment.
  • Familiarity with criminal procedure and municipal court operations.
