About the position

The PT Librarian at San Jacinto College is responsible for performing various circulation desk procedures, assisting patrons with library services, and ensuring the smooth operation of library resources. This role involves direct interaction with library users, providing support with library equipment, and maintaining the organization of library materials.

Responsibilities

  • Performs circulation desk procedures, such as checking in and checking out materials.
  • Locates Reserve materials for patrons.
  • Checks in deliveries of inter-campus and inter-library loan materials.
  • Calls patrons regarding ILL books.
  • Assists patrons with library equipment, including copier, scanner, and printer.
  • Answers directional questions and refers patrons to appropriate library personnel.
  • Communicates library and circulation policies.
  • Shelves library materials according to LC classification standards.
  • Processes books and materials.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Requirements

  • American Library Association (ALA) accredited masters in library science (e.g., MLS; MLIS).
  • Library or customer service experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of library methods and procedures.
  • Able to operate library equipment and technology.
  • Able to navigate the online Sierra library catalog.
  • Able to comprehend and follow instructions.
  • Able to manage tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates basic computer and phone skills.
  • Demonstrates a proactive and friendly customer service attitude.
