About the position

The Part-time Optical Sales Associate at Shopko Optical is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and patient care in the selection, ordering, and dispensing of eyewear. This role involves pre-screening activities, preparing work orders for the Optical Lab, processing medical billing information, and maintaining frame inventory. The position offers on-the-job training and certification opportunities, making it suitable for individuals looking to grow their careers in the optical field.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer and patient service according to company and Optical Center standards.
• Analyze patient eyewear needs and recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames.
• Assist patients in selecting frames according to style and color, ensuring proper coordination with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions.
• Order and dispense eyewear accurately and professionally.
• Assist patients with proper frame repairs and adjustments.
• Show patients how to insert, remove, and care for their contact lenses.
• Assist Optometrist with case histories and screenings.
• Maintain a complete knowledge of third-party plans and claims.
• Explain promotions and special lens offerings to patients and customers.
• Balance accounts and prepare work orders for the Optical Lab.
• Process medical billing information and ensure proper merchandising of frame inventory.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or equivalent.
• Maintain license as required by state.
• Complete Shopko OCE Certification requirements and calendar modules to become certified.
• Previous experience in an office and/or optical dispensing is preferred.
• Ability to handle multiple customer interactions/phone calls at a time.
• Ability to analyze prescriptions, perform repairs and adjustments, and provide lifestyle dispensing.
