About the position

The PT and OT Aide at Shepherd Center plays a crucial role in supporting Physical and Occupational Therapists by preparing the environment and assisting patients with daily activities as outlined in their treatment plans. This hands-on position is vital for enhancing the patient experience during rehabilitation services, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere, and facilitating patient recovery through collaborative efforts with the therapy team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating a welcoming environment for patient care.
  • Transport patients throughout the center.
  • Assemble and adjust equipment to meet patient needs.
  • Assist patients with transfers and daily activities such as grooming, feeding, dressing, toileting, and bathing.
  • Conduct assigned OT groups or assist PTs or PTAs in group settings.
  • Maintain therapy and nursing equipment and environment.
  • Clean and return wheelchairs and other equipment as assigned.
  • Complete assigned clerical duties.
  • Instruct new employees and volunteers in departmental maintenance tasks.
  • Attend and actively contribute to department meetings.
  • Report employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents to the supervisor.
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous therapy aide or clinical/healthcare experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to interact positively and supportively with patients.
  • Ability to learn and operate therapy equipment.
  • Knowledge of growth and development across age-specific patient needs.
  • Ability to follow instructions and problem-solve effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work demands and environments.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • A bachelor's degree in exercise science, health science, biology, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience with patients with Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, Stroke, Concussion, and Vestibular Disorders.
