About the position

The Public Affairs Specialist position at the Department of Agriculture's Alaska Region involves establishing and maintaining media relations to support a comprehensive public affairs program. The role requires the incumbent to engage with media representatives, prepare communication materials, and develop public affairs strategies to address complex public issues.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with media representatives.
• Write, edit, and prepare news releases and articles for various media outlets.
• Coordinate efforts to inform the public and employees about Forest Service programs and policies.
• Participate in the development and implementation of public affairs communication plans and strategies.
• Utilize various communication methods to devise appropriate strategies for public affairs campaigns.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent private sector experience for GS-11 level.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent private sector experience for GS-12 level.
• Education may substitute for experience as outlined in the job description.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with social media and new technologies in communication.
• Ability to analyze public comments on management issues.
• Experience in developing audio-visual materials.
