About the position

The Public Art Project Manager is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of public art projects within the City of San Antonio. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of project management principles, particularly as they apply to public art initiatives, which involve navigating additional policies and guidelines that govern the selection of artists, design review processes, and the integration of art into public spaces. The manager will oversee multiple capital projects, ensuring that they align with the city’s cultural objectives and community needs. In this position, the manager will lead a diverse team of professionals, including artists, architects, engineers, and contractors, to ensure successful project execution from inception to completion. This includes organizing project teams, defining project requirements, and developing detailed project plans and schedules. The manager will also be responsible for monitoring project milestones, assessing risks, and implementing necessary changes to keep projects on track regarding scope, time, cost, and quality objectives. The role requires strong leadership skills to provide direction and support to team members, ensuring they have the necessary tools and training to perform effectively. Additionally, the manager will maintain productive relationships with stakeholders, community members, and vendors, facilitating communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle. The position may also involve occasional evening and weekend work to accommodate project needs and community engagement activities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage public art capital projects from planning through implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with public art policies and guidelines during all project phases.
  • Lead a team of professionals, including artists and design professionals, to deliver projects.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans and schedules.
  • Monitor project milestones and critical dates to identify potential risks.
  • Conduct project kickoff meetings and communicate roles and expectations to team members.
  • Assess project variances and implement changes as necessary to meet objectives.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews with stakeholders during and after project completion.
  • Provide constructive feedback to team members regarding project performance.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with project sponsors, stakeholders, and community members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of project management experience.
  • Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques, and methodologies.
  • Ability to estimate, plan, track, control costs and provide status reporting.
  • Skill in developing project plans and scope of work.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
