About the position

The Public Benefits Specialist at Ensemble Health Partners is responsible for interviewing uninsured and under-insured patients to determine their eligibility for state Medicaid benefits or financial assistance programs. This role involves assisting with application processes, ensuring timely billing, and maintaining communication with patients and relevant stakeholders. The position emphasizes the importance of a human touch in healthcare and aims to empower employees to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing all referred uninsured/under-insured patients for program eligibility opportunities.
• Initializing and coordinating the application process to facilitate accurate and appropriate submissions.
• Effectively communicating with patients to obtain necessary documents for applications.
• Following up on submitted applications to ensure timely billing or adjustment processing.
• Documenting all relevant actions and communication steps in assigned patient accounting systems.
• Maintaining knowledge of state and federal program requirements and sharing information with colleagues.
• Developing and maintaining proactive working relationships with Medicaid caseworker partners and collaborating with other revenue cycle departments.

Requirements

• 1-2 years of experience in the healthcare industry, interacting with patients regarding hospital financial issues.
• Understanding of Revenue Cycle including admission, billing, payments, and denials.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the patient insurance process for obtaining authorizations and benefits verification.
• Knowledge of Health Insurance requirements and medical terminology or CPT codes.

Nice-to-haves

• Patient Access experience with managed care/insurance and Call Center experience.
