About the position

The Public Benefits Trainer position at Loudoun County Government is responsible for training staff on policies and procedures related to public assistance programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF. The role involves onboarding new employees, ensuring compliance with state regulations, and developing training materials. The trainer will also provide refresher courses for existing staff and communicate updates on policies and procedures. This position supports the department's mission to enhance the well-being of individuals and families in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide training in policy and procedures for SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF programs.
  • Onboard and support newly hired Public Benefits staff.
  • Review case records for compliance with State timeliness and accuracy.
  • Provide feedback to trainees and their supervisors on performance and training progress.
  • Develop and deliver refresher trainings for experienced staff.
  • Participate in meetings outside the agency regarding policy changes.
  • Communicate procedures and system changes related to Public Benefits to staff in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain training and reference materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Two years of professional experience in Public Assistance Programs or related experience, with at least one year of experience facilitating training.
  • Knowledge of automated systems related to public assistance programs.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of public assistance programs.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and training methodologies.
  • Skill in conducting interviews for eligibility determination.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policy in determining eligibility.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Experience processing SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF applications and renewals.
