About the position

The Public Communication Specialist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is responsible for managing all public information functions for the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History. This role involves publicizing the Center's initiatives through various media channels, managing digital activities, and overseeing social media outreach campaigns. The position also includes organizing in-house publications and collaborating on fundraising materials.

Responsibilities

• Manage all public information functions for the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History.
• Work with on-campus and local media to publicize the Center's work and initiatives.
• Manage and update the Center's website and digital activities across applicable platforms.
• Organize and implement social media outreach campaigns.
• Oversee the production of in-house publications and graphics for exhibitions and programs.
• Collaborate with the Development Officer to prepare solicitation materials for fundraising activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Skilled in managing complex print or digital communications projects from concept to delivery.
• Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate communications campaigns strategically.
• Strong writing and editing skills for print and digital communications.
• Knowledge of design software (Adobe CS3) and video production software.
• Experience with email campaigns and web design principles.

Nice-to-haves
