About the position

HNTB is seeking a communications manager responsible for planning, developing, and leading public involvement and engagement strategies for clients. The role focuses on facilitating public acceptance of projects and initiatives through collaboration with internal and external clients, as well as communications team members. Key aspects include strategic communications planning, content management, stakeholder management, and public involvement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations and oversee the creation of marketing and communications collateral.
  • Implement public involvement, communications, and outreach strategies for clients.
  • Develop content to provide consistent, targeted, and impactful messages.
  • Direct the development of speeches, presentation materials, and digital media for client review.
  • Engage with clients to determine appropriate communications vehicles for disseminating project information.
  • Identify stakeholder perceptions and make recommendations to improve support for initiatives.
  • Define and report key performance indicators (KPIs) for campaign effectiveness.
  • Plan and coordinate community meetings, ensuring proper setup and materials are present.
  • Oversee compliance with state and federal regulations as requested by clients.
  • Implement quality control procedures to ensure high-quality program production.
  • Contribute ideas for new initiatives and recommend innovative communications techniques.
  • Responsible for recruitment, hiring, mentoring, and retention of staff.
  • Contract with and manage sub-consultants for public/community relations and graphic design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Marketing, Communications, English, Journalism or related field and 8 years of relevant experience, or 12 years of relevant experience in lieu of education.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a task lead for communications, public engagement, and/or public involvement tasks on engineering, planning, or environmental contracts.
  • Ability to build external communications strategies and tactics including public outreach activities and digital communications.
  • Experience in monitoring project sentiment through public engagement and outreach activities.
