About The Position

The Public Health Director is responsible for overseeing the planning, development, and implementation of public health services in Montrose County. This role involves administering and enforcing public health laws and standards set by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and the County. The director assesses health factors, communicates health issues to the public, manages the Public Health Division's budget, and provides leadership for public health improvement activities.

Requirements

• Minimum of five years of administrative experience in public health within the past ten years.
• Master's degree in a public health discipline or be a physician.
• Valid Colorado Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
• Successful completion of NIMS 700, ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, and 800 emergency management classes within one year of hire.
• Ability to substitute professional public health work experience for academic requirements.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze community health risks with staff.
• Provide leadership and support for public health improvement activities and strategies.
• Develop relationships with individuals and organizations to establish improvement strategies and activities.
• Advise local Board of Health, County Commissioners, and other officials on public health issues.
• Collaborate with various groups to improve the Public Health Division's operations.
• Manage staff directly and through subordinate supervisors, including interviewing, training, and evaluating performance.
• Oversee staff development and ensure adequate professional development and in-service training for all staff.
• Collect and analyze statistical data, reports, and information related to public health.
• Conduct studies and surveys in collaboration with other organizations.
