About the position

The Public Health Nurse I (PHN I) is responsible for delivering public health nursing services under the supervision of a PHN III Nursing Supervisor. This role involves coordinating nursing services with program requirements to achieve regional goals, implementing nursing standards, and providing direct public health nursing services in an assigned geographic area. The PHN I also supports clinic operations and staff development while ensuring quality care is delivered to the community.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver public health nursing services to eligible clients using the nursing process and adhering to program standards.
  • Perform technical nursing procedures including tuberculosis testing, treatment, and monitoring.
  • Provide immunizations and education to eligible clients, traveling to geographical areas where patients reside.
  • Serve as a role model for support staff in professional and ethical behavior.
  • Ensure appropriate patient referral and follow-up.
  • Coordinate services with other disciplines to maximize patient benefit.
  • Implement nursing program goals, objectives, and standards in the office.
  • Assist with staffing and scheduling of clinics.
  • Responsible for administrative and patient encounter reports.
  • Provide indirect supervision and daily direction to clinic support staff and LVNs.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas.
  • Experience in public health nursing or a related field.
  • Ability to perform nursing procedures and provide patient education.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
