About the position

This position serves as the Director of the Public Health Nutrition Program for the Florida Department of Health in Lake County and is responsible for the management of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and any funded comprehensive nutrition program activities. Directs and oversees all WIC functions and program services to ensure consistent adherence with state and federal regulations. Incumbent is expected to comply with and ensure staff's compliance with all WIC and DOH operating procedures and directives including information materials and equipment security. The incumbent of this position is responsible for administrative activities relating to WIC including budget preparation, mentoring and supervision of employees and collaborating with community partners. Directly oversees all nutrition program plan reviews and compliance audits. Integrates maternal and child nutrition services with appropriate health department programs and other community programs. Monitors on-site operations of WIC services at all Lake and Sumter WIC sites and program compliance through delegated quality assurance reviews.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited college or university in nutrition science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, or dietetics.
  • Currently licensed in Florida as a Dietitian/Nutritionist.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience working in the WIC program.
  • Willingness to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours in emergencies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Verifiable experience speaking, writing, and reading the Spanish language.
  • Advanced knowledge of the WIC program.
  • Knowledge of the current science and practice of food and nutrition and dietetics.
  • Ability to write measurable health and nutrition-related standards and objectives.
