About the position

This position is located in the Social Media Section of the Communications Campaigns Service in the Campaigns and Country Operations Division, Department of Global Communications (DGC). The Section is responsible for devising, implementing and managing the multilingual social media strategy of the Department, in line with its overall communications guidance, priorities and messaging and as guided by administrative policies on the institutional use of social media. The incumbent will report directly to the Public Information Officer in the Section.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a first point of contact for the social media team, escalating issues to the appropriate focal point.
  • Manages information sharing platforms and email lists to help coordinate social media efforts within the team, the Secretariat and around the UN System, including training colleagues on the use of these products when necessary.
  • Researches, compiles and organizes information and reference materials from various sources for reports, briefings, meetings/conferences, etc., as needed for the team's workflow.
  • Assists in the preparation of presentation materials using appropriate technology/software.
  • Helps draft talking points and report inputs.
  • Contributes to the production of social media products by curating content, transcribing video files, creating quote cards, monitoring comments on social media platforms and more.
  • Responds or drafts responses to routine correspondence and other communications.
  • Monitors processes and schedules related to the Section's outputs, products, tasks, etc.
  • Maintains calendar/schedules and distribution lists.
  • Maintains files (both paper and electronic) and databases for the Section.
  • Assists in providing software and office equipment support.
  • Schedules and coordinates meetings with relevant offices to help facilitate social media team events at UNHQ.
  • Responds to ad hoc requests for Social Media Section services.
  • Performs other functions as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in public information, international broadcasting, journalism, public relations, marketing, international relations, information studies, graphic design, or related fields is required.
  • The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one year for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
  • Experience using information-sharing tools in the context of social media management is desirable.
  • Experience monitoring comments on global social media platforms is desirable.
