About the position

The Ohio Department of Insurance is seeking a Public Information Officer (working title OSHIIP Community Liaison) to provide Medicare expertise to Ohio's Medicare beneficiaries, their family members, and caregivers. This role involves serving as a subject matter expert in designated counties, conducting presentations, and supporting volunteer recruitment and training. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and data analysis skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide all OSHIIP services to designated counties, including volunteer recruitment, training, certification, and retention.
  • Maintain and expand OSHIIP presence in assigned counties.
  • Act as Medicare subject matter expert for local counselors, sites, and consumers.
  • Conduct statewide in-person and webinar presentations.
  • Work one-on-one with Ohio's Medicare population at statewide in-person events and through virtual counseling to explain and compare health plan and prescription drug plan options.
  • Solicit reports from volunteer counselors and enter all activity into federal web-based reporting tool.
  • Run performance reports and analyze data to support program activities and direction.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 30 months experience in journalism or communication dealing in public multi-media techniques & relations, public speaking, news writing, reporting & editing or technical report translation & communication; valid driver's license.
  • Completion of undergraduate core program in journalism or communication; 6 months experience in public multi-media techniques & relations; valid driver's license.
  • 12 months experience as Public Information Specialist; valid driver's license.
